This workshop focused on stressing that as journalists, we have the power to decide what’s important after we gather all of our information. This can be a little scary when writing profiles. Who are we to determine what’s most important in someone’s life? Well, we are journalists, and we actually have the power to do that. Don’t be afraid to use it. As long as your facts are correct, sift through the info you gathered and focus on what seems most significant to you. The subject doesn’t necessarily have to agree with the image of them you put together, because they agreed to the interview and thus gave you the creative power to report it in whatever way you see fit.
