Betsy Sussler is editor of BOMB magazine, which covers artist to artist interviews on novels, films, visual arts, plays, and more. She says that when she plans an issue, she makes sure to cover topics that are emerging, acknowledged, and underacknowledged. This can certainly carry over to a college newspaper, which should include a range of stories on what all the students are talking about, upcoming events, and little known gems of stories that college students will be interested in. Also, Betsy’s got me thinking that we should add a creative section to the Beacon, if feasible – just a little place for student-submitted poems, pictures, or even short stories when we have the space. Thoughts?
